Tarot card meanings, the short way in.
Every card is built from two things you can learn in an afternoon: its suit and its number. The pictures do the rest.
Cups are water: feeling, love, what passes between two people. Wands are fire: desire, drive, things already moving. Swords are air: words, decisions, the cuts that clear the way. Pentacles are earth: money, work, the body, what lasts. The Major Arcana sit above the suits. When one lands, the question is bigger than it looks.
The numbers tell you where in the story you are. An Ace is a start. A Two is a choice or a meeting. Five is trouble, Six is relief, Nine is nearly there, Ten is the end of a cycle. Pages bring news, Knights bring movement, Queens hold it, Kings run it.
Read a card upright for what it is and reversed for where it is stuck. Then read it next to the cards around it, because no card means anything alone. That last part is the part a page cannot do for you, and the part I do in a reading.
A spell for your week, every Sunday. Free, from my altar to your inbox.
The one ritual I would do this week if I were you, what the cards say is coming for you, and the bonuses I only ever give to the list. For the one who wants him back, the money moving, the luck turned.
What people ask about tarot card meanings
How many cards are in a tarot deck?
78. Twenty-two Major Arcana, the big turns from The Fool to The World, and fifty-six Minor Arcana in four suits of fourteen: Cups, Wands, Swords and Pentacles, each running Ace to Ten plus Page, Knight, Queen and King.
Do reversed tarot cards mean the opposite?
Rarely the full opposite. A reversed card keeps its meaning but loses its footing: blocked, late, turned inward or overdone. Every card page here has the reversed meaning written out separately.
Which deck are these meanings for?
The Rider-Waite-Smith deck, drawn by Pamela Colman Smith in 1909, the deck most modern tarot is built on. The pictures on these pages are scans of that original edition.
What is the best way to learn tarot card meanings?
Learn the suits first, then the numbers, then the pictures. Cups are feeling, Wands are drive, Swords are thought and conflict, Pentacles are money and the body. An Ace is a start, a Five is trouble, a Ten is the end of a cycle. After that, every card is a combination you can work out from what is drawn on it.
Can a tarot card tell me if someone loves me?
A card can tell you how a connection is moving and where it is stuck. It cannot read a mind on its own, and one card pulled at home tells you a corner of the story. For a question about a specific person I read the whole situation, which is what my readings are for.
