Four of Pentacles upright meaning
A crowned man sits on a stone block with a city behind him. One coin balances on his crown, he hugs another to his chest with both arms, and he has a foot planted on each of the last two. He is not using any of it. He is making sure nobody else can.
Upright, the card means someone is guarding something. Money, most obviously, but just as often feelings, time, or the upper hand. The fear underneath is loss. If I let go of this, I will not get it back. So the hands stay locked, and the thing being protected cannot grow, cannot be spent, cannot be shared.
It is not a bad card. Savings are good. Boundaries are good. The problem is when holding becomes the whole point and the city behind him, all the life he could be part of, stays behind him.
