Upright

Two of Wands upright meaning

A man in a red cap and cloak stands on the battlements of a castle, looking out over the sea and the land below. He holds a small globe in his right hand and a wand in his left. A second wand is fixed to the wall beside him. He has the world in his hand, quite literally, and he has not left the roof yet.

Upright, the Two of Wands means you are at the planning stage of something bigger. You have the resources, the idea and the view. What is left is the decision: which way, and when.

In love it often comes up when someone is deciding whether to take a relationship further, move to be with someone, or go after a person they have been watching from a distance. The card is a yes, but a yes that depends on you stepping off the wall.

Two of Wands reversed meaning

Reversed, the man stays on the roof. Most often it means planning as a way of not starting. Researching, thinking, waiting for the perfect moment while the moment passes.

It can also mean fear of the unknown: the globe is a lot to hold, and staying where you are feels safer. Or a plan that is kept small and comfortable because the bigger one is frightening.

It is not a no. It is not yet. The road is there. You have not walked out onto it.

The Two of Wands is a card I see for people stuck at a starting line. They have done the thinking, sometimes for months, and something keeps them on the wall. What I look for in the spread is what that something is. Fear is common. So is a real block: a person, a circumstance, a door that will not open however much you plan.

When it is a real block, that is where road opener work belongs. It does not make the decision for anyone. It clears the way, so that when the client steps off the wall there is somewhere to go. In my experience, that is often all the Two is waiting for.
