Tarot card meaning · Wands Knight of Wands tarot card meaning

The Knight of Wands is the card of passion that moves fast. Upright it means desire, impulse, adventure and someone who acts before thinking. Reversed it means the heat burns out as quickly as it came. In a yes or no reading it is a yes, fast and hot. Whether it lasts is another question.

Upright

Knight of Wands upright meaning

A knight rides a horse that is rearing up on its back legs. His tunic is yellow and covered in salamanders, and flames stream from the plume on his helmet. He holds a staff out in one hand. Behind him are the same desert pyramids as the Page, but he is not standing and looking. He is already going.

As a person, the Knight of Wands is exciting and hard to hold. Charming, bold, sexy, impatient. They pursue hard and they mean it while they mean it. They love the chase, the trip, the new thing. Staying put is not their gift.

As a situation, the card means movement and desire. Something happens quickly and with a lot of heat. A move, a fling, a decision made on impulse. It is alive and it is fun. It is not, by itself, a card about building anything.

Reversed

Knight of Wands reversed meaning

Reversed, the horse is out of control. Most often it means impulse without follow through. Someone comes on strong and then disappears. A plan launched in a rush that falls apart in a week.

It can also mean frustration: the drive is there and it is blocked, so it comes out as temper, restlessness or recklessness. Arguments that flare up fast. Decisions you regret by Monday.

I read it as a no. Not because the passion is fake, but because it has no staying power in this position. It will be gone as fast as it came.

Love and relationships

Knight of Wands in love.

If you are single

Someone exciting arrives fast. Strong attraction, quick moves, a lot of heat early. Enjoy it with your eyes open. Let them show you they can stay before you plan a life around them.

In a relationship

Passion comes back, or the relationship moves suddenly: a trip, a move, a big impulsive yes. Upright, it is thrilling. Reversed, one of you is restless and looking at the door.

About an ex

About an ex, the Knight of Wands can mean a sudden, intense return. They show up with heat and big words. It is real in the moment. Watch what happens after the first rush, because that is where this card usually stalls.

How they feel

Knight of Wands as feelings

As feelings, the Knight of Wands means strong desire. They are attracted to you and want to act on it, now. It is physical, eager and impatient. Whether there is depth under it is not something this card answers on its own.

What to do

Knight of Wands as advice

Act on the desire, and keep one foot on the ground. Move fast if you want to, but do not make promises in the first week that you will have to keep in the third.

The question everyone asks

Does the Knight of Wands mean he wants me back, or that they will return?

It can mean a sudden comeback, full of heat and intention. The Knight moves fast once the decision is made. The question is what happens after they arrive. Upright, the return is real but may be restless. Reversed, it is impulse, and it fades as quickly as it flared.

In my readings

When Knight of Wands comes up for me.

When the Knight of Wands comes up about someone, I look for what keeps them. This person is not short on desire. They are short on reasons to stay once the first fire has burned down. The cards around the Knight tell me whether there is anything slower and steadier under the heat.

Clients asking about a Knight usually want the pull to last. That is what binding work is for: not creating desire out of nothing, but keeping a fire that is already lit from burning off in a week. I am honest when the spread says there is nothing there to hold.

If this card is about someone

One card shows a corner. I read the room.

When a card keeps coming up about the same person, the question under it is bigger than its meaning. These are the two ways I can help with it today.
