He has gone quiet, or lukewarm, or left, and you want to know how to make him miss you without turning into someone who chases. You cannot make a man miss you. You can stop standing between him and the missing. People miss what has left and what they cannot predict, so the work is absence done well, a life he can see the shape of and is not invited into, and a candle for the part you cannot reach.
I write him because that is what most people type at midnight. It holds the other way round, for exes, for the one who went lukewarm, for the one who never quite started. The contact candles I burned this autumn were nearly all for men who had gone quiet rather than gone, and the reports said the same thing in different words: you are still in the room. Leave it.
Can you make him miss you at all? What absence does
Absence makes room. It does not make feeling. If something was there, the quiet lets it surface without your weight on it, and he starts noticing the gap where you were. If he left relieved, the quiet completes the leaving. If he is new with someone, nothing moves until that runs its course. Everyone else, which is most people, has something that can surface.
Missing someone needs an empty space, and most people never let the space go empty. A like, a story he knows was posted for him, a hope you’re ok on a Thursday: each one fills the gap before he has a chance to feel it. He never gets to miss you, because you never left. The whole method below is a list of ways to leave, and to stay left.
How to make him miss you: six things, in the order I would do them
Leave without announcing it, break the pattern he can predict, stop being the free version of what he had, keep a Thursday he cannot account for, be seen by other people rather than by him, and decide the stretch of time before you start. That is the method, and every one of the six is harder than it reads.
- Leave without announcing it. No I need space text. The announcement is a door held open with your foot in it. Just stop appearing.
- Break the pattern he can predict. If you always answered inside the minute, stop. If you always posted on a Sunday night, do not. Half of missing someone is not being able to predict them.
- Stop being the free version of what he had. No late calls for comfort, no help with his mother’s birthday, no being the friend he leans on with none of the cost. Your company comes with the rest of you or not at all.
- Keep a Thursday he cannot account for. When you do speak, leave gaps in the report. He cannot miss what he knows everything about.
- Be seen by other people, not by him. A friend’s photo of you laughing at a table is worth more than any photo you post, because you did not post it.
- Decide the stretch before you start. A lunar cycle, two at most. Then stop counting, because counting turns every quiet day into a verdict.
Should I text him? What to send, and what the silence is doing
Not while you are trying to be missed. The first message from your side tells him the quiet was a tactic, and a tactic is something he can wait out. If contact is already open, let the last message be his, answer later than you want to, and keep your reply shorter than his. If it is closed, the silence is doing the work and the message would undo it.
| What you send | What he reads |
|---|---|
| Hey stranger | She has been counting |
| I’m not mad, I just want to understand | The conversation he left, reopened from the other side |
| A sad lyric in your story at midnight | A door held open, and a reason not to walk through it yet |
| A photo with someone new, angled for him | Effort, aimed at him, which means he is still the audience |
| A reply shorter than his message, hours later | She has somewhere to be |
| Nothing | A quiet he has to fill himself, and the only message that makes him wonder |
When he does write, do not say why now and do not say I thought you’d forgotten me. Answer the way you would answer a friend you like and have not seen in a while. If he wants more he will ask for more, and the asking is the whole point. You want to watch him do the reaching.
How to know if he misses you: the signs, with timing
Missing shows at the edges before it shows in your inbox: a story watched to the end, a like on something old, your name asked about through a friend, the same odd hours online. Then a message about nothing. Then a question about your life. The order holds when a candle made the room, and when you made it by stepping back.
- The first week: nothing you can see. The change is on your side, and it is the ache changing shape from constant to occasional. With a contact candle set, most people notice the first signs in the second or third week.
- The view. A story watched to the end, or a like on a photo from before you two. Deniable, which is why he does it.
- The sideways word. A mutual friend says he asked about you. Not whether you are fine. Whether you are seeing anyone.
- The message about nothing. A song, a meme, a dog that looks like yours. The road being tested from his side, and the moment most people ruin by answering with a paragraph.
- The question about your life. Curiosity is the first thing to go when a man has let you go. When it comes back, something came back with it.
- The plan. Coffee on Saturday. Not we should catch up sometime.
The full turn, where it comes, can take up to three lunar cycles. What is not a sign: that you dreamed about him, or that his song came on in a shop. Those are news about your own heart, and the honest version of what they mean is in dreaming about your ex. The broader list of what movement looks like after any love working is in do love spells work.
How to make him miss you with a candle: what it does on the altar, and what it does not
A contact candle works on the channel between two people and nothing else. His name near the top, yours near the base, a line carved between them so the flame travels from him toward you, and the one thing you want carved beside the line: text, call, unblock. It is set to bring you to his mind at the odd moment until writing feels easier than not writing. It does not change what he feels, and it does not script what he says.
That narrowness is the point, and it is why a contact candle is not a love candle. No red cord, no honey jar, no petition about the two of you. Yellow for words, light blue if what you want is a calm message rather than a heated one, red only if the contact is romantic and you want it to feel that way when it lands. A drop of honey on the petition for sweet words, and that is the whole dressing.
Contact candles burn differently from the rest of what I set. They are quick, and they talk. A flame that crackles early, before the wax has moved, means words: your name is in his mouth or about to be, and the report says do nothing. A flame that leans toward his name and stays there means he is thinking and not writing, which is the most common thing I see on these and the most frustrating. A candle that goes out before the flame reaches your name is a message drafted and not sent. I relight it once. If it goes out again at the same place, I write that the channel is being held shut from his side, and we talk about casting again, or cutting.
The complete method is in the contact me spell guide. For the full table of flames, soot and wax, go to how to read a candle burn.
How to cast a contact me candle for him at home
One candle, paper, a pen, your phone, and about an hour and a half with nobody coming in. This is the same working I set at my altar.

What you need
- One yellow or light blue chime candle, or red if the contact is romantic. Yellow is for words. A chime candle is gone in a single sitting.
- A square of plain paper and a pen. Unlined.
- A pin to carve with.
- A drop of honey, optional, for the words to come sweet.
- Your phone, sound on.
- A fireproof plate on a clear surface, nothing hanging above it.
1. Decide the one thing
Text, call, or unblock. One. A candle asked for all three gives you a muddy burn and a muddy week. If what you actually want is the relationship back, that is a different working and a different guide, and I would rather you knew before you lit anything.
2. Write the petition
His first name at the top of the paper, your first name at the bottom, and between them one sentence in the present tense about the channel, not the conversation: He writes to me, and it comes easy. Do not write what you want him to say. Contact work fails the moment it tries to script the reply.
3. Carve the channel
His name near the top of the candle, yours near the base, a thin line from his down to yours. Beside the line, the one word from step one. The flame will travel from him toward you, which is the direction you want the message to travel.
4. Set the plate and the phone
The petition goes under the plate, with a touch of honey on it if you are using it. The candle stands on the plate. Your phone goes beside the plate, sound on, a hand’s width from the flame and no closer.
5. Light it and leave the phone alone
Light the candle. Say his name three times and your sentence once, then nothing else. Sit with it and watch the flame rather than the screen. Checking the phone every few minutes is the quickest way I know to put out a candle that was burning well. If you must leave the room, snuff it and relight it when you return.
6. Afterwards
Fold the petition small and keep it with the phone, in the case or under it at night, until he writes. When he does, let the paper go. If the cycle passes and he has not, let it go anyway, and read the section below on when this is the wrong working.
How long does it take for a man to miss you?
Nobody honest gives a number, so here is the shape instead, from the reports I write and the replies that come back to them. The quiet turns fastest when he went cold without leaving, slowest when pride or a new person is in the way, and never when he left relieved.
| Where things stand | What usually happens |
|---|---|
| He went quiet but never actually left | Often within the first three weeks once you stop reaching. He had nothing to reach past |
| It ended over timing, distance or one fight | The quiet turns somewhere in the second to fourth week |
| He ended it and would have to go back on himself | Longer. He needs a reason to write that does not sound like an apology |
| He is seeing someone new | Months, if at all. That has to run first, and it may not end the way you want |
| He left relieved | It does not turn. Spend the season on something else |
What stretches every line is the check. Every time you look at his page you are not gone, and every time you break the quiet you reset the clock the candle started. People who do this well decide how long they will give it before they begin, and then stop counting.
The moves that undo it
- Breaking the quiet at one in the morning. Three weeks of being gone, erased by one message from a bad night. Write it in your notes. Send it to nobody.
- The jealousy post. He sees effort aimed at him, and effort aimed at him is the opposite of absence.
- Asking friends to report back. You stay in his life as a rumour, and nobody misses a rumour.
- The closure talk that is really a way back in. He already left that conversation once.
- Casting and then checking. A candle set to bring you to his mind at the odd moment has no odd moments to use if you are in his notifications daily.
- Being his comfort line. If he can have your voice at midnight for free, he has no reason to miss the rest of you.
When making him miss you is the wrong goal
Sometimes it is, and the candle will tell me so before you do. If he asked you to stop contacting him, or blocked you after telling you why, that is not a cold spell and I will not cast on it. If he left relieved, absence completes the ending rather than reversing it, and a cord cutting is the kinder work. If what you want is the relationship back rather than the message, the honest plan is in how to get your ex back, and the work for the gap itself is a reconciliation spell.
If you do not know what is there to miss you, find out before you spend a month being quiet at someone who has let go. The signs that an ex is actually coming back, and the ones that only look like it, are in will my ex come back, and a reading will tell you what is between you now rather than what you hope is.
When I cast it for you
Order before 6 pm ET and the candle goes on the altar tonight. His name and yours carved with the one thing you want, the petition under the plate, the candle burned through in one sitting while I sit with it. This is the fastest work I do, and the one people write back about soonest, which is why it has a same day rush option.

What comes back is a photograph of your candle after the burn and a written report: what it did and when, what I read in it, and what to do this week. If the flame says the channel is being held shut, the report says that too. Reply with questions and I answer them.
- Single Candle when it is one message, one call or one unblock you are after.
- Double Casting when he has gone quiet before and come back, and you want the channel held open rather than opened once.
You send first names, yours and his. Nothing else, because this one is narrow on purpose. I do not ask for birth dates or charts, and the history can stay with you. You have thirty days to say the work was not what I described here, and I re-cast or refund.
Choose your contact me casting, or read the full listing first.
